‘Wo kya hai, mere paas ek naya phone hai, bill bhi hai, ap loge kya? N8 hai.. bilkul naya… saste mein de dunga’, he said.
‘kyun bechna hai?’
‘who saab, paise ki zaroorat thi…’
‘to liya hi kyun? Achha zara dikhao to…’
[Translated to English –
X- ‘Hey Brother, Hear me for a moment… you understand Hindi??’
Me- ‘yea, say!’
X- ‘Actually, I had a new phone – The N8. You interested in buying it? It’s brand new. I’m interested in selling it. You can get it for a cheap price.’
Me- ‘Why do you wanna sell it?’
X- ‘Actually I had a monetary problem’
Me- ‘Then why did you buy it? Anyway, show it…’ ]
Then he pulls out the masterpiece from his pocket, wrapped up in a protective bag along with a bill, and hands it over to us, to have a look at. And my first thought – ‘Its screen size seems so small, maybe coz
it’s the silver one’
I turn it around, ‘hmm, seems brand new, but doesn’t feel all that good.’
He shows us a bill with the name ‘Yunus’ and cost of the phone as INR 22000. And then Rahul, desperate to confirm the authenticity of the phone, asked me, ‘yaar, tu apna phone to nikalna’.
I pull out my N8 from its cover and then we are unable to control our laughter. The only words which come out are, ’bhai, yeh to fake hai!!’ and We return him his phone and start walking away. But then we were too eager to see the OS which this fake N8 ran so we went back and convinced the guy to power on the device. The guy obviously did not know any specs for this faker but what amazed us was the close resemblance the operating system had with Nokia’s Symbian^3. Everything seemed to be similar but with a bad resolution. We also tried the camera but then it was no way near to a genuine one. These Chinese imitators maybe good but then they have their limitations too. We just returned the phone to him telling him it was good to meet him and that he should try selling it for something below INR 5000.
Someone might get interested then…
Anyway, here are a few snaps we took…
(Watch out for duplicates! Always buy a Nokia from trusted Nokia resellers)
And just in case you could not identify, the right one (Silver N8) is the fake one.
