For those who have tried an x64 OS, they know that installing it is no joke. The biggest challenges with an x64 OS is the computer’s drivers… “Just go and keep hunting till you gun them all..”
HP6515b is no better. Some friends of mine had WinXP x64 installed on their system and i don’t remember anyone in possesion of its Sound Driver.. meaning.. they was no sound on the system! Initially they did not even have a display driver. And yes, the HP support did not have any WinXP x64 Drivers for HP6515b!! wow.. On their behalf, I tried searching on HP forums for possible support but have not received any replies so far.
Read somewhere that www.planetamd64.com would be helpful, so i searched there. But all i found were broken downloads. If you do not know yet, then this machine – HP6515b has an audio device called – ” ADI SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio”. After searching a lot of forums and sites i finally came across www.extended64.com which had a driver for this audio device but was meant for an HP6715s. Now, because i had tried almost all drivers i had come across and had found each one of them useless, i downloaded this one without many hopes. But WOW… accepted! This driver actually worked on HP6515b!
And because this driver had troubled me so much i did not want any one in desperate need of it to lose the chance of getting this…
PS: Make sure you download Microsoft’s UAA Driver Update first… The HD audio driver needs it to be installed first. ( This usually comes packages in SP1. So if your Windows SP1+ then no need to download it. I recommend upgrading to the latest Service pack.)
Here is the extended64.com link to the driver: (You need to register to be able to download)
In case the link is broken you can also my upload link,
